The sins of face to face meeting continued...
We were considering the cardinal sins of face to face meeting recently and so here we continue with them.
Not knowing what you want the outcome to be of any face to face situation is an error which a lot of people make. Too often the objective of the meeting is forgotten and so some other outcome is the result. This always leads to a feeling of frustration and disappointment.
In going to networking meetings where you will be able to meet new contacts, you need to clearly understand why you are going there. Do you want to meet new business contacts with a view to gaining some business advantage from the exchange? Are you looking to widen your circle of friends or business associates? Are you looking for sociable interaction, after all a lot of small business people these days rarely get outside of their own society and this can often be very limiting? Are you looking for a strategic alliance or business partnership?
There are all sorts of reasons for the face to face meeting but you must be clear before you get involved if you are to get the best out of them!
Another cardinal sin is not being passionate. It is one thing to be over the top and completely embarrassing in company but another to be the person nobody "sees or remembers". You need to make a favourable impression and this can be done usually by introducing a certain amount of gravity or passion into your personality...you become "larger than life" and the statement you make will be more memorable and therefore more effective!
