Congratulations William and Kate!
Why is it that so many thousands of people, probably in excess of 500, 000, will crowd into London tomorrow to witness the Royal Wedding? Surely they would be able to get a better view of all the proceedings and the minute by minute media frenzy if they were to sit in the comfort of their own homes and watch it all unfold on television?
The answer, of course, is face to face relationship! Yes, broadly put, all the people who have queued, camped, scrambled and elbowed themselves out to be 'there in person', on the streets of London wish to form some sort of relationship (albeit a distant one) with the happy couple. They cannot do this, in their estimation, by being removed from being there, being next to the couple, even if it is just for a fleeting moment as they pass them by.
It is a marvellous testimony to the power of face to face relationships that however distant the outcome, for some people it is the only thing to do. They simply cannot feel engaged in any other way!
It is a very powerful emotional pull. It is a very powerful and sometimes irrational force and it is a compelling consummation of the relationship contract that each of us as a part of "society" feels bound to enter into.
As to the relationship of Kate and William, I think it is plain to see in their face to face contact that the spark of true and lasting love is there for all to see, so good luck to them for a long and happy union.
